What a wonderful yet busy start to the year with many great positive events throughout Term 1. Our new Year 7 students have settled in well, after their Aussie Bush Camp at Kincumber and supported by their Peer Support Leaders in Year 11. We hope this relationship continues to develop over the year. The introduction of Elevate Study Skills program for Years 7 to 12 has been implemented to specifically assist with students start to the year regarding their study habits and techniques.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Friday 16th March was National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, which seeks to raise further awareness of the importance of speaking up, discussing and reporting all forms of bullying. Staff and students had the opportunity to engage in discussion and continue the difficult conversations around all types of bullying. Direct links where also sent to all students via CANVAS.

On Wednesday 21st of March, St Dominic’s College participated in our own Harmony Day celebrations. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. The day at St Dominic’s included an assembly which highlighted the inclusive community and featured a Māori Haka. Following this was a selection of multicultural food and music that celebrated the cultures within our community. The day also marked the release of our new House polo shirts, which Year 7 received and proudly wore.

House Update

The Br Jeff Regan House Cup is well and truly underway with student participating in a variety of areas. Page 12 of the College diary outlines how students can gain points for their respective houses. In 2018, the four Houses are supporting their own health initiatives within the College. Dharuk started us off with huge success, with their Happy Red Day on the 14th February. The day was linked to improving our own heart health and using the skill of CPR. A step-up and CPR challenge raised awareness and participation at both recess and lunch in the main yard. Thank you to all the staff and students who were involved in these successful activities.
