Staffing Update – Term 2

We are fortunate enough to welcome new staff members to our teaching community due to some internal changes and teaching opportunities elsewhere. Mrs Peters from the PDHPE faculty, has transferred to another local school for the remainder of the year accepting a terrific opportunity. We welcome Miss Cook who will be with us for the rest of 2018, as will Mr Kennedy-Gould who also joins the PDHPE department as we support other staff taking on extra-responsibilities within the College. As many of our students and parents would be aware, Ms Berridge left us at the end of Term 1 and we have been able to secure Miss Walters for all of Term 2 teaching English, HSIE and Religion in Stages 4 and 5.

Throughout Term 2, St Dominic’s College, in partnership with local Universities, continue to provide Professional experiences for students at University in the completion of their tertiary qualifications. Whilst this process may at times cause some discontinuity with classes, students have an opportunity to engage with a variety of teaching methods. This is not an opportunity to be disruptive or take advantage of beginning teachers and those students who are disrupting the learning of others will be addressed accordingly by their regular supervising classroom teacher.

Term 2 – Semester One Focus

Hopefully, as Parents, you have taken the opportunity at the recent Parent Teacher Interviews to have valuable learning conversations with staff and be updated on your son’s progress and possible areas of improvement. As we approach the Semester 1 reporting period there will be many assessment tasks in the upcoming weeks. Students are reminded that there are processes and procedures to be followed if you are unfortunately absent on the day of an assessment task as well as submission of assessments (Student Diary p.140-141 and with the Curriculum pages on canvas).

Students should also take advantage of the resources provided in the Resilience Project contained in the Student Diary. For example; students wishing to act upon suggestions from their teachers and parents for academic improvement, should take advantage of the goal setting information and using the SMARTER goals model (p.70-71) and setting some personal and academic goals for the month of June. It would also be advisable for our Y12 students to complete the Study Planner and action some of the responses to their half way HSC interviews held with staff throughout the past fortnight.
