For the second consecutive year St Dominic’s College presented at the annual Canvas Conference “CanvasCon” where almost 1000 delegates from over 250 educational institutions (Universities, TAFE, Colleges, Schools etc) attended the International Convention Centre Sydney on September 11.

David Sheil (Director of Teaching and Learning infrastructure) and Jennifer Walsh (Canvas Learning Coordinator) presented “Evaluating your Canvas Environment” which showcased methods used at the College to support staff, parent and student use in their use of Canvas.

Notably our sustained activity engagement levels across the College is above 90% which places us as leader in Australia.

St Dominic’s College was proud to stand beside other recognized peers including:

Barker College St Peters College (Adelaide) Pymble Ladies College Rutherford Technology High School Wenona
University of Sydney RMIT University (Melbourne) University of Auckland Swinburne University Melbourne Grammar School

We showcased our commitment to using real data and usage trends in recognizing student needs and developing further growth in assisting them in achieving their personal best. Leaders across the College are using these analytics in monitoring student engagement and performance levels in providing a blended learning environment that best meets our community needs. As an educational environment we are now using the same tools and techniques that are now commonly applied to other industries including business, social media and health in targeting actions/clients specific to user data.

Collaboration is a key feature of our College Learning Statement and this includes our teaching staff in working with other Colleges and Universities. In addition to our collaborations with peer educators we explored new and emerging features in Canvas that will assist your son further. Exciting new features include:

·       New improved student dashboard (where they can schedule their own tasks)

·       Numerous improvements in the Student APP with greater integrations with smart phones.

College Representatives at Canvascon included:
  • Nicole Pritchett – LOTE Coordinator
  • Christopher Hicks – Religious Education Coordinator
  • Rebecca Reid – HSIE Coordinator

More on Canvas:

Canvas is our College Learning Management System used to support all students of all classes of all year groups. It integrates with our Microsoft Office 365, Jacaranda, Clickview accounts in providing our learning community with a simple, consistent, seamless user experience for all and provides all stakeholders (teachers, parents and students) with notifications and results directly to their phone.

Canvas is a worldwide platform and began in Australia in 2015. Its use and adoption is growing exponentially across the globe (Canvas Student APP is the ranked 11th for students in the US, noting Snapchat at #7).

We are proud as a College that so many of our graduates are now following their further studies in a similar Canvas environment that they had experienced in their time at the College.
