Online Learning Free Day – Monday, 16th August
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and families for their ongoing support of our students in the online
environment. While many students have thrived, others have found the lack of social interaction
challenging. Regardless of how you are coping with online learning, it is important that time is provided away from the
day-to-day expectations of online lessons and the associated work.
Therefore, to support the students, families and our dedicated staff, Monday, 16th August will be an Online Learning Free Day. Students will have the freedom to work
on their assessments or complete outstanding work without the pressures of attending to classes either via MS Teams
or through their daily announcements.
After five weeks of online learning, the College believes this time away from the screen is important for staff, students
and parents to recharge and prepare for the next two weeks leading into the NSW Premier providing an update to the
current lockdown restrictions on Saturday, 28th August. Depending on the outcome of the revised lockdown
restrictions, the College will investigate the opportunity for an additional wellbeing day later in the term.
The College will remain open for any student who requires supervision because their parents are classified as essential
workers. For this day only, we request families to register their sons by emailing the College at
info@stdominics.nsw.edu.au by 2.00pm on Friday, 13th August so that we can arrange supervision for Monday, 16th
August.
Though this is an Online Learning Free Day, Year 12 students will still be able to email their teachers for support in
their preparation for the HSC Trial Alternative Assessments.
Our senior students have access to specific resources, study tips, links and wellbeing activities on the College Pastoral
Page in Canvas. This can be accessed by clicking here.
The College also has plenty of Pastoral and wellbeing activities for all students to get involved with during this Online
Learning free day, including the Rivalympics challenges. I encourage students to submit entries into the Rivalympics
games to help support their House teams and demonstrate school spirit. Students can access the Rivalympics
challenges and wellbeing resources on the Pastoral Care page in Canvas or through the following links; Rivalympics and
Wellbeing Resources
I hope that you and your families remain safe and healthy as we continue to face the challenges of COVID-19.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Michael Ronchetti – College Principal
