On Friday 23rd March 2018, Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 Elective Visual Arts students visited St Mary’s cathedral to experience Gothic Architecture and wonder at this amazing prayer filled space.

Students walked past the site specific sculptural work of Hossein and Angela Valamanesh, An Gorta Mor, on their way to the Art Gallery of NSW.  There students viewed Artexpress which showcased Blake Raymond’s, Flight 24/7 HSC BOW from 2017. We saw aspects of the permanent collection and the 2018 Biennale. After a quick lunch in Circular Quay we travelled by ferry to Cockatoo Island where we had a tour by “Henry” who spoke about the history of the island and explained the Biennale and contemporary art. The highlight of the day was seeing Ai Weiwei’s artwork Law of the Journey, 2017, a 60-metre inflatable boat filled with more than 200 oversized figures. This artwork is a social comment on the plight of refugees.
