During Term 3, St Dominic’s College played host to the Australian Mathematics competition.
First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students. The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend our students’ problem-solving skills.
Each year, the student with the highest standardised score is awarded a First in School Award. This year’s recipient is Huzaifa from Year 7. Huzaifa achieved a Distinction, indicating he placed in the top 20% of all Year 7 and 8 students across Australasia in 2024.
The 2024 competition saw some pleasing results with one quarter of St Dominics’ participants achieving in the top 50% of scores in their respective Stage divisions.
Congratulations to Huzaifa and all students who took part in this year’s competition. A big thank you also, to Mr Meek and the entire Mathematics Faculty for mentoring and supporting our students.
