MCS and NSWCCC Downie Cricket 1st Grade Cricket 2018/19
Congratulations to the 1st Grade Cricket Team for an impressive season, unfortunately going down again to St Gregory’s College in the grand final. We played Marist Eastwood in the semi-finals and kept them to 4/143 after 20 overs. We past their score with 3 overs remaining 2/144. This place us in the grand final against St Gregory’s College again, who we lost to in the final in 2018. With a wet and green wicket, we won the toss and elected to bowl first. Liam Doddrell dismiss their captain in the first over, with a great 2nd slip catch by Jacob Bullus. Unfortunately, we missed a couple of chances throughout St Gregory’s innings, but the boys push through these difficult times and reduce St Gregory’s to 7/125.
We had a difficult start to our innings, with losing one of our opening batmen on the first bowl, but the boys show great determination and fought back and end up with 8/100. Even through win lost the grand final, the whole team showed great determination throughout the whole season, including the grand final.
There were several highlights throughout the season. These included:
- Liam Doddrell, 74 against Parramatta, 93 against Schofields, 75 against Greystanes and 66 against Eastwood and 40 against Gregory’s in the grand final.
- Jerry Crumpton achieving 2 hat tricks during the season against Schofields and Dundas. With figures in both matches of 6/4.
- Jacob Bullus taking 4/35 against St Gregory’s in the Quarter Finals of the NSWCCC Downie Shield.
- Riley Wilson taking 3/14 against St Gregory’s B’s.
I would like to thank Dylan Hodson for supporting the team throughout the season and taking on the scoring duties due to an injury that hampered his availability to play 1st Grade. Also, thank you to Mr Jansz for assisting with the coaching of this team throughout the season.
