Year 7 student, Orlando has shown how kindness can make a difference. Leading up to his 2021 Year 7 interview, Orlando had been growing his hair. During his interview, Orlando indicated that he wanted to participate in a fundraiser before starting at St Dominic’s. He was encouraged by Mr Jansz at the interview to make a plan, and then make the arrangements to follow through with that plan.
Orlando went home from the interview and researched various organisations that he could fundraise for. He settled on Wigs4Kids, who make wigs for children suffering from cancer, with the hope of helping them to feel more comfortable and confident whilst traversing a difficult time in their lives. Orlando created a fundraiser page, promoted it to friends and family, and raised awareness of this in the community by doing an interview with the local newspaper (who printed an article featuring Orlando).
Orlando set a goal of raising $1000, but ultimately raised over $3,500 for Wigs4Kids. In addition, Orlando sent his hair to the wigmaker who works with Wigs4Kids so that it could be made into a wig for a child with cancer.
Orlando recently received a Community Recognition Statement from the Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies, acknowledging his fundraising efforts.
St Dominic’s College congratulates Orlando. We are proud of your willingness to help others in need by demonstrating this incredible act of kindness.
