It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Deputy Principal of St Dominic’s College. It is truly a privilege to have the opportunity to be leader in a school with such a rich tradition of quality Catholic education.
During the final months of last year, I had the opportunity to meet some of the staff, students, and a handful of parent members of the SDC family, and in every conversation, the pride for this College shone through. I have been so impressed and inspired by the welcoming community that is St Dom’s. It is crystal clear that St Dom’s is a vibrant community. It is about modelling Catholic values, treating people with respect, and developing quality relationships. I have witnessed this first hand in the first five weeks of this Term. Recently I have had the tremendous pleasure of going to several of our local Catholic Primary Schools with a combination of senior students and students from Year 8. The dialogue in the car has been fantastic to listen too. The comradery between the different Cohorts is heart warming. The way these young men then engage the future St Dominic’s students, talking confidently and proudly about their college, is testament that the holistic education that St Dominic’s provides is alive and well.
I join this community with over 23 years of service to Catholic education, including the past 11 years in senior leadership roles. I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the community of St Dom’s this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that education can transform lives and that it is my role to support teachers with contemporary resources and professional learning opportunities to allow our students the very best of learning experiences and every opportunity to achieve their potential best.
Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible. I look forward to meeting with you as partners in your son’s education.
Thank you for your support and best wishes for the year ahead,
Mr Adam Rafferty
College Deputy Principal
