Headspace Penrith provides free face-to-face information, support and services to young people, aged 12-25, and their families and friends regarding assistance with mental health, general health, alcohol and other drug services as well as work support. Headspace also have a specialised service for young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis or at ultra-high risk of experiencing psychosis.
More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25. Headspace began in 2006 to address this critical gap, by providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 – 25 year olds. With a focus on early intervention, headspace works with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
Headspace aims to meet the evolving and unique needs of young people and those who support them. Therefore, young people are at the centre of everything headspace does and they play an active role in designing, developing and evaluating the headspace programs.
On August 29th, headspace started to run a free social evening for young people called ‘Chill Thursdays’. These sessions are for young people between the ages of 12 and 25 and run from 3pm to 5pm at the headspace Centre in Penrith.
‘Chill Thursdays’ is a space where young people can come and hang out, meet others and develop new interests. There is room for students to play instruments, participate in Art, study, play video and board games or bring individual activities or projects. These sessions are free and food is available. These sessions are available to all St Dominic’s students who feel they would benefit from this service.
