“Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they shall be called children of God,

Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,

for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”.

The readings from Sunday’s mass provide all of us a clear message to follow the ‘laws and customs’ and not just see them as words that have no relevance to us as individuals, “ … you must do what the word tells you, and not just listen to it and deceive yourself.”  We cannot be the hypocrite that Christ talks about and only honour him through ‘lip service’.  Through our actions we are able to witness a person’s heart for it is within the heart of an individual that we can truly know their intent.  If we do not act, then we are deceiving ourselves and not showing the purity of our heart.  A heart that is forgiving.  Let us continue to search for true love and true forgiveness from our God.

A reminder to all parents that the Y7 – Y10 Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 12th September. Bookings can be made through our online service.

The Creative Arts and Performing Arts Showcase held on Wednesday 29th August was another great example of the abilities and talent that exists within the College.  The Visual Art and Visual Design exhibition provided us with an array of mediums that showcased the creativity within young men.  While the performances was an expression of the musical and dramatic talents of the students.  The evening was exceptionally well catered by the Y11 Hospitality.  Thanks to our special guest Mr John Phillips who returned to St Dominic’s to share his wonderful story about his artistic achievements. Special thanks to: Visual Arts team of Mr S. Lewis (Coordinator), Mrs J. Knowles, Mrs C. Thompson and Mrs D. Kennett for the elegantly presented works within the Br Treacy Centre; the Music team of Mr C. Wilson, Mr L. Hine and Miss V. Ede for their amazing production. To our Hospitality team of Mrs N. Monteleone and Mrs S. Kingston.  To our Maintenance team for supporting the setup of the two venues. To the number of students and ex-students who came and either performed or worked with lighting or sound or backstage or hospitality, thank you.  It was great to see so many boys wanting to be part of this significant event and ensure its success.  I would encourage all families to attend next year’s evening as it truly showcased the abundance of talent we have in the creative arts.

The Father’s Day Mass was a beautiful celebration with over 50 fathers, grandfathers or significant male figure in attendance.  Fr Peter focused his homily on love and allowing all males to express their love to their sons/grandsons.  Mr B. Cummins’ reflection of fatherhood was extremely heartfelt as he articulated what many fathers and grandfathers have experienced in their own relationships with their sons.  I would like to personally thank Mr Cummins for allowing us the opportunity to share with him our most inner thoughts.

The St Dominic’s athletics team was courageous in the Annual MCS Athletics Carnival at Homebush last Thursday.  Not only were their individual performances noteworthy but the spirit demonstrated by the student, in particular, the Y12 students would make all ex-students extremely proud.   Though we finished second by the smallest of margins, 10 points, the effort from all students was remarkable.  Congratulations to the coaches and the students.
