Welcome back for Term 2, as we set ourselves for yet another busy Term in regard to our sporting calendar. Our Rugby League and Soccer MCS competitions recommence Thursday May 2nd 2019. It has been a fantastic start with the majority of our teams posting high on the ladders early in the season. I would like to wish Mrs. Birkett the very best of luck with our Chess teams who will be competing in the MCS Championships across the 2nd and 9th May.

Thank you to Mr Hall, Mr D’Souza, Miss Lister and all of our students who recently travelled to Nudgee College, Brisbane for the EREA Soccer Championships. From all reports, our students represented the College with the upmost pride and played excellent across the tournament. Even after a narrow defeat in the semi finals against Chatswood, students demonstrated a respect and sportsmanship. Well done to all involved in the Championships.

Thank you to Miss Cook, who recently took charge of the Mixed Year 11/12 Touch Football team. The team consisted of a number of St Dominic’s and Caroline Chisolm students who played in the tournament at the Kingsway, St Mary’s. Although the team only had a limited number of training session to prepare, it was fantastic to see them progress to the semi finals on the day. Also, thank you to staff and students from Caroline Chisolm who made the opportunity possible.

Good luck to Mr Churchill, Mrs Pritchett and the Year 9/10 All Schools Touch Football team. The team will compete at the regional competition on the 10th May at the Kingsway, St Mary’s for the opportunity to progress to the State competition.

A further congratulations to Liam Ison and Luke Hanson, who were recently selected in the U/15’s NSWCCC Touch Football team.

Year 11 & 12 Mixed Touch Report

First time appearance competing in the mixed year 11/12 NSW State Touch carnival held at Kingsway, Penrith. We started off strong with some quick plays through the middle and a solid defence line which had them shocked. After some solid sets with speed up the field putting the team on the back foot early we accomplished an outstanding first game win 12-1 against Gilroy. The next two games stepped up with some outstanding touch football from both teams leaving us with a draw and a loss. We then began our final series up against Baulkham Hills first. We had a great warm up that lead us well into the game allowing our links and wings to have plenty of ball especially in the wet conditions. The girls were strong running the middle and being able to play off the boys attacking line. With the skill of splitting the defence and constantly running at their line, it allowed us to come away with the win 4-1. The rain continued into our next game against Mudgee. We knew we had to play smart to the conditions and use the short ball through the middle which put us in a 2-0 lead. We knew Mudgee were not going away and came straight back at us with their speed, making it locked up before we knew it. The hooter went off and we were now in drop off. Unfortunately getting down to 3v3 with Mudgee having possession they ended up with the try to end the game. It was a great day had by all, showing outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship to the very end. Both Caroline Chisholm and St Dominic’s College players should be proud of their efforts and the overall result achieved. Well done.
