STUDENT RECENT WORK EXPERIENCES
Police Work Experience by David Pletkan
On Thursday, 30th of May, I attended the work experience day at Penrith Police Station. There were 20 representatives from various schools in the Penrith Region that attended the day. It was incredibly interesting covering Police Rescue, Scene of Crime Officer’s, Highway Patrol, VKG, Detective Investigation Process, Crash Investigation Unit, Tour of Police Station, Recruitment and Weapon Training Unit. I highly recommend taking up this opportunity for students in coming years as it was a great firsthand experience into the life of a Police Officer, more that you would experience at a Police open day or Information day.
Health Inspirations Program at Nepean Hospital by Jake Zakostelsky
Health Inspirations was a work experience program that took place over five weeks of this term at Nepean Hospital. It was, hands down, the best weeks of this term. I started the week off with an introduction to careers in health and some quick tours of the hospital. Tuesday and Thursday were amazing days as we were given site specific tours of different departments which enable us to understand how these departments operate. On Wednesday I was able to talk and question over 15 different health professionals. Friday was the last day with the program equipping me with the tools to apply for a job in health. I would like to thank Mrs Rimmer for helping me apply to the program and all of the staff at Nepean Hospital and Cranebrook Community Health Centre.

Fee-free Apprenticeships
Recently, the NSW Government announced that they will cover the qualification fee for 100,000 new apprenticeships over the next five years, to help address skills shortages. Under the initiative, employers and apprentices won’t have to pay the up-to-$2000 qualification fee – the government will pay it direct to the Smart and Skilled training provider.
