As the Year 12 class of 2019 focus on future career pathways, planning for the future is extremely important. I often advise students to always have a few career pathway ideas and be willing to have an open mind. To investigate various employment fields and explore all options available to them. Students are encouraged to reflect on the skills school has taught them; such as teamwork, collaboration and developing good quality working relationships with people.

Year 10 Careers Sessions

Year 10 students had the opportunity recently to work with guest presenters, as part of the Career Development program. This program focuses on; what employers are looking for in this current time and how to write a cover letter, CV and interview techniques. The main idea of the program is centred around “ways to stand out and how to get an employer to notice you over another person”. The Careers program provided simple skills for our students to take a proactive approach to developing their own skills and how to look for career opportunities.

Sydney University & Nepean Hospital Research Day

Some students from Y10 had the opportunity to attend a day at Nepean Hospital to learn about the latest scientific developments and breakthroughs. The day consisted of lectures from Sydney University research staff and a career talk from a Senior Cardiologist from Nepean Hospital. He discussed his career path to medicine and how he motivated himself during the HSC and at University.
