We have been planning Justice Peace and Advocacy Groups and were able to launch 3 of the student-led groups during Founders’ Week that reflect the spirit and charism of Blessed Edmund Rice and St Dominic Savio.
ERA for Change
The launch of the ERA for Change group was on the 6th May with the intention of creating change in the wider community. We are wanting to become a voice of change in the community as we aim to advocate for the rights of marginalised people in the local and wider community with regular meetings to discuss different advocacy initiatives.

Callan Reading group
We launched the Callan Reading Group in Founders’ Week with the intention of helping junior students develop their reading and comprehension skills. The Callan Reading Group aims to help members of the St Dominic’s community become more confident readers by meeting with them regularly to read a wide range of different texts.

SDC Young Vinnies
SDC Young Vinnies was launched in Founder’s Week. Ten students, from Years 7-9 participated in formation to brainstorm ways we can meet and create campaigns to improve the plight of the marginalised. It will be led by the Social Justice Prefect, each year, and the SDC Young Vinnies Group discussed how they would run the 2021 Winter Warmth Appeal as well as planning a winter sleepout attempting to raise support for homelessness. We look forward to seeing where this newly established group goes, as our junior St Dominic’s College students follow in the footsteps of Blessed Edmund Rice in serving the community.
