It’s hard to believe we are at the end of August and will concluding a full term of teaching and learning online soon. Unfortunately, the reality of Covid-19 is not quite over but there is hope of a return roadmap provided by the NSW Government, beginning Monday 25th October for Year 12. We have all experienced this event together and we are at various levels of transition and adjustment across Greater Sydney. The circumstances have impacted our community, students, parents and teachers alike.

Please continue to keep our Year 12 students in your thoughts and prayers during their HSC Trial Assessment period. I thank staff, parents and students for working together to ensure this has gone smoothly. We wish them every success, during this challenging time. We wish our Year 11 students well as they begin to prepare for their upcoming Year 11 Assessments also.

We can all make a difference in the lives of those who might be struggling by having regular, meaningful conversations about life’s ups and downs. If you feel like something’s not quite the same with someone you know – there’s something going on in their life or you notice a change in what they’re doing or saying – trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them “Are you OK?” Follow the links below to the many pastoral activities set up to support our R U Ok? Day on Friday, 3rd September.

Whilst many children may be excited at the prospect of lockdown restrictions being lifted, others may feel mixed emotions. Each child’s reaction will differ depending on how well they cope with stress and change. As we all adjust to new routines, it will be vitally important to keep a check on our young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Encourage them to focus on the things they enjoy and value in order for them to remain motivated and ensure their sense of belonging. An example of this getting involved in our house activities online.

Below is a range of fantastic resources which can assist during this time, including our student and parent online learning guidelines. Many of these have been shared by our dedicated staff already through various platforms, including Canvas. I would encourage you to take the time to browse these also and have a conversation with your child where possible. These resources help to assist all students with facts sheets, study advice, healthy routines, relaxation, breaks and helpful links. Year 12 students have specific links to assist through navigating towards the HSC, while staying as healthy as possible.

Please remember that our College is here to support students and parents throughout another challenging situation. If you need any further support, please make sure to contact our staff to assist. We will get through this together.
