“They would not accept Him.”
Like all the prophets, we are sent out to speak the truth to the world, especially when it is not popular. As baptised Christians we speak on behalf of God and on behalf of those who do not have a voice throughout the world. It is through our baptism that we are expected to be the truth, the prophetic voice. Our society is consistently changing and challenging all of us. How will we be the voice of truth? What opportunities are there in our lives that allow us to speak the truth so that people will accept Jesus? The Spirit of the Lord is upon all of us. It is through Christ that we speak the truth, so let us be a channel of the peace of Christ and an advocate of his truth.
Term 3 will once again provide opportunities for students as they continue on their learning journey. I hope that all families have reviewed their Semester 1 reports and have reassessed their goals for the remainder of the year. Sometimes these conversations between son and parent can be challenging but they are important conversations, as they will provide guidance for our sons especially as they progress throughout Semester 2.
In keeping with our theme for 2017 “Live the Gospel”, I would encourage all students to reflect on how they have lived the gospel values throughout semester one. The challenge for semester two then lies in how we can continue to live the gospel values especially with those in our community. By living out the gospel values, we are able to remain faithful to each other and make the message of compassion, justice and peace a living reality.
The College welcomes back Mrs C. McSweeney and Mrs E. Heath, two long-standing members of staff from their maternity leave. It is great to have you back amongst our community and we look forward to sharing the next stage of your professional journey. We also welcome Mr M. Bourke who will be replacing Mrs K. Keogh who remains on maternity leave until Term 4.
The College would like to wish the Year 7 Debating team all the luck for this Friday’s semi-final showdown. It has been an outstanding achievement so far. Year 7 are currently undefeated after being victorious in their quarter final debate against Gilroy in Week 9 of last term. The semi-final is being held this Friday night at Patrician Brothers Blacktown at 6:30pm. We will be debating against Brigidine College, Randwick. Good luck to Jose Corcio, Nicholas Papapavlou, Caleb Fayers and Mrs Kennett.
On Tuesday evening, our Year 10 students and their parents began the process of selecting courses for their senior years at St Dominic’s. It is an important time as each student selects the pathway that will lead him to success. Mr Levy, Mr Gorton, Mrs Rimmer and myself spoke about making the right choices so that they can succeed in their senior schooling. I pray that the difficult conversation is had between the parents and their son so that he will benefit from senior education.
The Y12 Major Works Showcase on Tuesday 30th July is always an exciting time of the year as Year 12 students from Technology Wood, Music, Visual Art, History Extension and Design and Technology present to the community their major projects, which they have been working on since last year. I would encourage students from all year groups to come and see these outstanding works in particular any student who is planning to enrol in any of these courses in the coming years.
On behalf of the College, I would like to congratulate Zac Cini for his selection into the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League Team. Zac played some exceptional rugby league at the recent Australian Schoolboys Carnival and was rewarded with his selection to the Australian team that will tour England and Ireland later in the year. Another sporting success for St Dominic’s College.
