As part of St Dominic’s College strong commitment to improving literacy levels of our students, all students in Years 7 to 10 will participate in the Progressive Achievement Test for Reading (PATR) in Weeks 9, Term 3. This test is conducted annually for students in Years 7 to 10 in order to assist the school in measuring and tracking student achievement in reading comprehension, throughout their time at the College.
Why are these test being administered?
The Progressive Achievement Test for Reading (PATR) is a test developed by ACER (Australian Council of Educational Research). This internally administered assessment will be used in addressing key literacy areas in the College and focus on:
- Highlighting individual student needs and abilities to be addressed and supported;
- Guiding the classes students are in, 2019 and beyond (elective choices);
- Informing parents more clearly and regularly on their son’s literacy growth;
- Improving whole school literacy levels;
- Providing teachers with objective information for setting realistic learning goals and planning effective programs.
How will these tests be administered?
These tests will be conducted during Weeks 9 Term 3.
Each student will only be required to sit one testing session.
Each testing session will be one period in length and supervised by the College teaching staff.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at the College if you need further information or clarification concerning matters on the PATR Tests, I am available via email on pgorton@stdominics.nsw.edu.au or at the College on (02) 4731 1933.
