Everyone Belongs
Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. The central message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians.
Harmony Day began with Year 7 being initiated into their Houses formally by taking their House Pledge and receiving their very own House shirt. Year 11 supported their peer support buddies and welcomed them with enthusiasm.
Our Harmony Day Assembly commenced with a procession into the hall from the ‘Chinese Lion’ performers, before students were addressed by various staff in a variety of foreign languages. St Dominic’s College was very fortunate to hear from Jackie Leewai – Community Engagement Adviser SBS – regarding her cultural heritage, including her message of inclusiveness.
At lunch students enjoyed a variety of cultural foods before being invited to participate in a Festival of Activities to cap off a truly memorable Harmony Day.
